As I appropriate and recontextualize abstract painting structures, the roles of painting open the way for provisional painting and multiplicity. Multiplicity arises from a zone of creativity that allows for source and process to continually be open. By allowing painting inflection, or shift in the work, new potential is introduced that pries open the sourcing opportunities and makes one aware of the embedded and arising problem sets that might exist in each work. This process of improvisational response allows for multiple entry and exit points in the process of making a painting. Provisional painting emerges from an inflective studio practice by asserting marginalization, inconsequentiality, contingency, and shifting over hierarchy, permanence, and universality.

My newest body of work stems from recent musings on personal and collective states of becoming. The work has emerged in relation to the recent years in which the Covid 19 pandemic, intensifying social-politics, and personal upheavals have left me in in-between states, desperately trying to make sense of the world that I live in as well as how current states inform my constant becoming. The work moves between processes of being built and excavated, eventually resulting in a partiality that reflects my own humanity in dynamically shifting global and personal narratives.
