Steven Stradley is a conceptual painter working in an increasingly broadening range of material with acrylic paint as the base of his practice. Contemporary aesthetics filter into his art practice as he continues to engage questions of abstraction and the object of painting. Stradley's work muses on ideas of change and shift within our dynamic world, engaging provisional painting strategies to map his constant state of becoming. Having graduated with an MFA from Michigan State University in 2013, he now works in his Pine Valley, Utah studio where he hosts annual open studios and runs an artisan guild to create cultural opportunities in his small town. He has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Emerging Utah Arts Council Grant, a prestigious University Distinguished Fellowship, and was the MFA Award recipient at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum. Stradley is represented at A Gallery in Salt Lake City and has shown work extensively throughout Utah and Michigan. He has exhibited work throughout the United States in various galleries and art centers. Stradley has had the pleasure of being employed at various museums of modern and contemporary art which has helped shape an understanding of art from pre-production to exhibition. He currently teaches visual art at Utah Arts Academy where he guides students in a range of art processes and exploration as they position themselves in the field of art.
